I've started this blogsite to keep friends and family posted on the goings on in Nairobi, Kenya. If everything goes well (and if I get the money!) I'll be on a plane from Houston to Dallas to Raleigh to London (Heathrow) to Nairobi on the 3rd. I'll leave at about 9 in the morning, and get to Kenya sometime the next day's afternoon (losing 8 hours or so of course). What an intimidating few days of airtime!
My parents blessed me with both a new digital camera and a camcorder, so definitely I'll have some great pictures to share and possibly some great footage too. Caleb Cameron's (one of my best friends who is going on this trip with me) and my film producing dreams as they are, we have aspirations of making a documentary. Who knows, maybe we'd get enough good stuff to put something together. But that's not the purpose of us going over there.
We're not there to save the world, we're not there to solve Africa's problems, and we're not there to win the Kenyans to Christ. We're there to love and serve as many people as we intimately and truly can as possible. We’ll hold conferences for several hundred area pastors, many of whom don’t own a complete bible, to help teach, encourage, and supply them with their much needed ministerial tools. We’ll serve the countless children in orphanages whose families have been ravaged by poverty and disease. We’ll be able to alleviate some physical needs by partnering in the digging of wells, building of homes, and running of irrigation trenches. And we'll have two months to do it.
Pray for us. Trying to keep as far away from the "middle-class-caucasion-Americans-helping-the-poor-old-Africans" mindset, we need prayers to simply love and serve with everything that we have. We'll keep you posted.
Much love and peace.
